SUE CHANDRA - Wantirna South

Sue is a registered psychologist at The Three Seas Psychology’s Wantirna South practice. With a Master of Professional Psychology and a professional journey that began in engineering, she brings a unique blend of analytical thinking, compassion and lived experience to her clinical work. She was drawn to The Three Seas for its client-centred culture and strong alignment with her own therapeutic values.

Areas of Focus

Sue works with clients across the lifespan and has developed deep experience in several key areas, including:

  • Women’s mental health across all stages of life, informed by extensive volunteering with PANDA and the Birth Trauma Association, as well as her own lived experience.
  • Trauma, complex trauma and family violence, supporting individuals, children, families and couples.
  • Anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and co-occurring physical and mental health concerns.
  • Child and adolescent mental health (from age 8+), including neurodiversity support for both young people and their family systems.
  • Chronic pain and chronic health conditions, helping clients build sustainable coping strategies.
  • Couples counselling and relationship difficulties.
  • NDIS clients, including navigating complex needs and supporting functional and emotional wellbeing.

Sue works fluently in both English and Tamil, offering accessible care for clients who prefer therapy in their first language.

Therapeutic Approach

Sue’s therapeutic style is warm, collaborative and grounded in respect. She believes every client is the expert in their own life, and she views her role as providing scaffolding, supporting clients as they make sense of their experiences and move toward meaningful change.

Her approach integrates several evidence-based modalities, including:

  • Schema Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Trauma-informed practice
  • Mindfulness
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Strengths-based and person-centred frameworks

Sue adapts her work to each individual’s history, current needs, insight, resources and goals. She can be gently directive when needed, while also allowing space for clients to find their voice and confidence.

Working With Children & Families

Sue is passionate about supporting children from age 8 onwards. She loves the authenticity they bring into the room and uses play therapy and art-based techniques to help young clients express themselves in ways that feel safe and natural.

Her work with families often involves navigating trauma, neurodiversity, communication difficulties and major emotional or behavioural challenges. She finds this work deeply rewarding and notes the mutual learning that takes place when families discover strengths they may not have recognised in themselves.

Trauma-Informed Support

A significant part of Sue’s practice involves working with people who have experienced trauma—both recent and historical. She is guided by the belief that strength can emerge from struggle, and she prides herself on offering a steady, validating and safe environment where clients can heal at their own pace.

What Clients Can Expect

Clients working with Sue can expect:

  • A respectful, non-judgemental therapeutic space
  • A collaborative approach that honours their lived experience
  • Consideration of their past, present circumstances and future goals
  • Support that extends to the broader family system when needed
  • A therapist who genuinely values connection, insight and growth

Above all, she hopes clients leave each session feeling less alone, more supported, and aware that there are people in their corner who want something better for them.

A Note for Anyone Considering Therapy

Sue understands that taking the first step into therapy can feel overwhelming. Her advice is simple:
Listen to the part of you that wants something better, everything else will follow.
