GEMMA BROWN – Northcote

Gemma is a registered Provisional Psychologist (AHPRA), and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She holds a Master of Professional Psychology, a GradDip and a BA (Hons) in Psychological Studies. Gemma has worked in private and community mental health settings with adults and adolescents and has gained experience working with addiction, depression, psychosis, and anxiety disorders. Gemma is an experienced Zen meditation practitioner and is interested in applying mindfulness to psychological practice to cultivate self-compassion and present-moment awareness.

Gemma seeks to explore creative, adaptive ways to analyse psychological issues and to help individuals build a deeper understanding of themselves, find their voice and develop personal agency in resolving personal issues. Gemma’s approach is strengths-based/client-centred and brings a warm, conscientious style to the therapeutic space. She is interested in collaborating alongside her clients using a range of evidence-based modalities, such as cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness-based practices.

Gemma has a special interest in depression, low self-esteem, grief and loss, adjustment to life events, relationship issues, anxiety, and addiction. Gemma also has a special interest in seeking joy in difficult times.
